So how did we come to win ‘Best B&B in Dorset’? – well…

The Tank Museum at Bovington hosted this year’s Dorset Tourism Awards celebrating the best in Dorset Tourism and also the county heat in the South West and National Visit England Awards. Winners in the various categories have been through a rigorous three stage judging process including a mystery visit. (Our mystery guest managed to remain undetected until check out when he declared his hand and admitted that he was a spy!)

We were therefore surprised and delighted to hear that we were finalists and donned black tie and high heels (Jason and Lyn respectively!) to meet some fellow hospitality folk over dinner.

A tank museum is probably the most unusual place we’ve dined and it certainly created an exciting atmosphere for our 3 course dinner served up by students of the local catering college.

It’s quite an achievement to be nominated as a finalist as such a new business and so we were imagining that we would be picking up the bronze for ‘a good first attempt’. When our fellow B&B colleagues were announced as the bronze winners we were surprised, and then even more delighted as the lovely owners of The Swanage Haven were announced as Silver winners – leaving us to collect the Gold! We’re so proud and still reeling with the accolade of best B&B in Dorset.

Apparently there is no mystery visit for the Visit South West awards so we don’t need to be on the lookout for suspiciously knowledgeable guests but please wish us luck for the next round in February – it would be great to get those heels out again!
