Back to Nature - Fire and Sky
The one thing most of us have gained from the last few strange years is an appreciation of how good being able to spend time outdoors makes us feel. The sun on our faces, the wind in our hair and ideally the sound of the waves helps our shoulders drop and our smiles reappear. To take this one step further, how about taking the kitchen outside?
Fire those brain cells learning how to cook on an open fire! We’re not just talking about barbequing here, but about taking it several steps further with the guiding hand of Fire School at High Grange Devon.
Take time out of your busy life to really appreciate the joys of a real fire – with, of course, a whole host of delicious food too.
Relax and enjoy learning new skills
Our Fire and Sky break begins with checking into Dorset House for a relaxing three night stay – long enough for you to really unwind. We’ll welcome you with a cuppa or a cheeky cocktail to kick start your stay.
To ensure that you can relax from the outset, we have booked you a table to enjoy a handmade wood-fired pizza at our restaurant overlooking the beach – just a few minutes walk from Dorset House. A gentle introduction to the deliciousness of food cooked on a real fire.
Wake refreshed from a sea air infused slumber to enjoy a Dorset House breakfast feast before we whisk you over the border into Devon for the main event – Fire School.
Heavenly High Grange Devon
At the beautiful setting of High Grange, Luke Mackay-Vandore will astound you with the art of cooking over fire. Not just searing meat – you will be introduced to so much more subtlety and variety with tonnes of tips and tricks to transform your cooking. And be prepared to get stuck in - this is hands on teaching where you'll get the chance to perfect the skills that you learn from digging a fire pit in the woods to cooking on ceramic barbeques.
With over twenty years’ experience as a chef, food writer and teacher, Luke has the perfect pedigree to bestow his knowledge. Having fronted Borough Market demo kitchen and the London Barbeque School, you know that you’re in safe (and highly skilled) hands.
And the best bit – you feast along the way with lunch and dinner! Expect to leave High Grange immensely well fed and brimming with ideas and enthusiasm for outdoor cookery - a great kick start to your summer.
You will spend the full day at High Grange including dinner. Luke and Sara have curated a fabulous wine list (and we're driving you home) so you will have the option to add a delicous bottle of wine to your meal.
Coastal Skies
We’ve named this break ‘Fire and Sky’ as our suggestion for the next day is to get out for a day of walking under our immense open skies. You could even join Lyn for a sunrise swim – on a good day the sky lights up as the sun rises over Golden Cap. We have some great ideas for walks and will set you off with a flask and cake to power you up those cliffs.
Of course, you could equally enjoy exploring our beautiful town’s quaint houses and independent shops and cafes – we have plenty of ideas to keep you occupied.
Enjoy your last evening at leisure – we can offer some great tips on where to head for a lovely meal to round off your trip. Or feel free to just relax in the snug at Dorset House with a local tipple from the Honesty Bar.
