SUSTAINABILITY IN PRACTICE
At Dorset House, sustainability and ethical practice are central to how we operate. We are committed to caring for both our historic building, our community, and our our beautiful environment.
Our approach is about balance: respecting the character of an older property while thoughtfully introducing measures that improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lessen our environmental impact. Wherever possible, we repair rather than replace, use responsible materials, and make gentle improvements that help the house perform more efficiently while preserving its character.
Energy & Water
We use energy-efficient lighting and carefully controlled heating throughout the house. Water-saving measures are in place behind the scenes, designed to reduce waste without compromising your comfort.
We kindly ask guests to switch off lights and turn down the heat when heading out — small gestures make a difference.
Thoughtful Sourcing
We prioritise local and like-minded suppliers wherever possible. Our food offering focuses on seasonal produce, and we consider the environmental footprint of everything we buy — from packaging to transport.
Housekeeping with Care
To help save water and energy, towels are refreshed at departure, or mid-stay for longer stays upon request. We use environmentally responsible cleaning products throughout the house to reduce our impact on both the environment and indoor air quality.
Reducing Waste
We actively recycle and compost food waste, and work to minimise single-use plastics by choosing reusable, refillable, or recyclable alternatives wherever we can, including using refillable bottles for bath products.
Supporting Our Community
Our team lives locally and is paid fairly. We also love supporting independent shops, cafés, and restaurants, and we’re always happy to share our recommendations to help you experience the best of the area.
Getting Around
We welcome guests arriving by public transport or from the South West Coast Path and are happy to help with onward travel arrangements. Exploring locally, whether by walking or using public transport, is an easy way to reduce your travel footprint.
